Have you checked your bra size lately? Our bodies change
throughout our lives, from adolescence to adulthood, college,
relationships, marriage, and motherhood.
Yet it’s a mystery why many of us rarely update our
size at these milestone events. As a woman, we take care of the needs of
others in addition to our own. Multitasking is part of our nature and
something we learn to do early on. When we need to change our shirt or
pants size, we do it whether we want to or not, but when it comes to our
bra size, we seem to draw a blank. We cling to the same old size as if
it were an heirloom. Ladies, it’s time to change, or at least to check!
A properly fitting bra will give you a more flattering silhouette and be
more comfortable. It will also be better for your health. It can
alleviate strain on your back and shoulders and keep your breast tissue
from breaking down and losing its firmness. Let’s start with trying on a
bra. First, bend at the waist and lift your breasts up one at a time and
gently place them back within the cups. Next, stand up. If you have the
right cup size, you shouldn’t see any gaps or overflow and the back band
of your bra should be anchored below your shoulder blades.
Size Yourself Up
To check your size, you'll need a tape measure and an open mind. First,
measure the fullest part of your breasts, all around your back and
across the center of your breasts. After measuring as precisely as you
can, write the number down on a piece of paper. Next, measure under your
breasts and around your back and write this number down, too. Review the
measurement table. If your tape measure does not have centimeters, you
can convert inches to centimeters by using a calculator. With a few
simple measurements, you can also check your panty size. If you are
unsure about where to measure, check the image on the table. Now that
you have your correct sizes, you can go shopping for sheer, sexy bras
and lacey panties!
Caring for Your Lingerie
Try using a soda-based fabric detergent for washing your lingerie. Most
regular detergents contain harsh chemicals that can damage delicate
fabrics. If you prefer to wash your lingerie in a washing machine, put
them in a mesh lingerie bag first. Be sure to hook the back closure of
your bras before putting them in the bag to keep them from hooking and
possibly damaging other garments in the machine. The lingerie bag will
prevent your bras from becoming wrapped around the machine agitator.
Don’t put your bras and panties in the dryer. The heat breaks down
Lycra, spandex, and elastic, and you’ll have to replace your
undergarments more frequently. Rotate your bras, as a bra doesn’t need
to be washed after every wearing. Avoid wearing a bra two days in a row
so that you won’t have to wash it as often.
